Begonia 'Rex' - 4" Pot

Rex begonia offers colorful foliage and is one of the most interesting indoor plants around. Despite its exotic looks, Rex begonia is actually easy to grow. Because it's a relatively short houseplant, Rex begonia is perfect for desks and tabletops where its wildly colorful, variegated foliage makes it a perfect contrast against other houseplants.

Lighting: Rex begonia loves bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, so east or west-facing windows are perfect. If you don't have a sunny window, don't worry! Rex begonia can thrive in low light conditions too.

Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Reduce watering in winter when the plant is dormant. And remember, it's better to err on the side of caution and underwater slightly than to overwater and risk root rot.

Humidity: Rex begonia adores a humid environment. To keep your plant happy, you can place the pot on a tray filled with water and pebbles or use a humidifier nearby. This will create a mini-greenhouse effect and maintain the perfect moisture levels.

Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix specifically designed for indoor plants. Avoid using garden soil from your outdoor garden as it can compact and prevent proper drainage.

Fertilizer: Feed your Rex begonia with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer). Dilute the fertilizer to half the recommended strength to avoid burning the roots.

Temperature: Keep your Rex begonia in an area with consistent temperatures between 65°F to 75°F (18°C to 24°C). Avoid placing it near heating or cooling vents, fireplaces, or drafty windows.
