Meet Begonia 'Striped', a flowering shrub-like plant native to Brazil. This plant has compact growth, velvet leaves, and a bright green stripe down the center of each leaf. The underside of the leaves is a rich mahogany color. It also has white flowers, adding a touch of elegance to any space.
Lighting: Begonia 'Striped' loves bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, so it's best to provide filtered light. East or west-facing windows are perfect for this plant.
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Check the soil daily, and water only when the top inch of soil feels dry. Reduce watering in the winter months when the plant is dormant.
Humidity: Begonia 'Striped' thrives in humid environments. You can increase the humidity around the plant by placing it on a tray filled with water and pebbles or using a humidifier.
Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix that is rich in organic matter. A mix specifically designed for tropical plants would be perfect.
Fertilizer: Feed Begonia 'Striped' with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer). Dilute the fertilizer to half the recommended strength to avoid burning the roots.
Temperature: This plant loves warm temperatures between 65°F to 75°F (18°C to 24°C). Avoid placing it near drafts or in areas with extreme temperature fluctuations.
