Orchid 'Orange Phalaenopsis' - Detailed Care Instructions
Granny's got some tips for you to keep your Orange Phalaenopsis Orchid happy and thriving!
Lighting
Give your orchid bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can be too harsh, so east- or west-facing windows are perfect. If you're using grow lights, keep them at least 6 inches away to avoid burning those delicate leaves.
Watering
Water your orchid once a week in the summer and once every 10 days in the winter. Let the potting mix dry slightly between waterings. Don't overwater, or you'll end up with root rot! Check the moisture by sticking your finger into the potting mix up to the first knuckle.
Humidity
Orchids love a humid environment, typically between 40-70% relative humidity. You can increase humidity around your plant by placing it on a tray filled with water and pebbles or using a humidifier.
Soil
Use a well-draining potting mix specifically designed for orchids. This type of mix will help prevent waterlogged soil and root rot. Repot your orchid every 2-3 years as the potting mix breaks down over time.
Fertilizer
Feed your orchid with a balanced, water-soluble orchid fertilizer (20-20-20). Dilute the fertilizer to half the recommended strength to avoid burning the roots. Fertilize once a month during the growing season (spring and summer) and skip during the dormant season (fall and winter).
Temperature
Keep your orchid in an area with a consistent temperature between 65-75°F (18-24°C) during the day and slightly cooler at night. Avoid placing your orchid near heating or cooling vents, fireplaces, or drafty windows.
By following these care instructions, you should be able to keep your Orange Phalaenopsis happy and blooming beautifully. Remember, every plant is a little different, so observe your orchid's responses and adjust your care accordingly.
